Plus, unlike the Browning BLR, this gun is entirely US made at about the same price. This is priced right where it should be for the features and quality. That is simply not the case because these 2 cartridges are not identical twins, and it is rarely good for a gun specifically chambered in .223 Remington to be fed 5.56 ammo. Without efficiency this wouldnt make sense, but the lever-action is more effective than we give it credit for. And why not? Using 308 Go and No-Go gauges, a Sharpie to mark the gear and rack, and lots of trial and error, he got it the engagement set properly after 2 days of intermittent work. It outperformed the hand load I built to replicate it by a tenth of an inch all done on a filthy dirty bore. Both rifles use two-piece stocks with a butt that terminates in a functional recoil pad. The .44-40 certainly is not. Held one in Cabelas a week ago. It was the only round where I hand to change my grip and really tug on the lever to get the round to eject. Its a hunting rifle, not a tactical bullet hose. Ive often put scopes on other Marlins, and all the BLRs and Winchester 88s Ive used have been appropriately scoped. Visually, the biggest difference between the receivers (other than the finish) is that the Browning's detachable magazine protrudes below the line of the receiver, while the Henry's detachable magazine does not. Springing from John Brownings Model 1894 design, the 94 has surely accounted for more meat in the freezer than most any other lever gun, due to the length of its production run, which continues today. Unlike traditional lever action rifles that rely on a quarter cock hammer notch safety, the BLR cannot be forced to fire by a strong blow on the hammer, even if it breaks internal parts. I felt the Henry was smoother and at least for me cycled and fed better. The resulting rifle shoulders quickly and delivers a full view of the scope and reticle to my eye. Totally on point, but still mildly dickish. By todays standards this isnt impressive, but these ballistics have been adequate for deer-size game for 125 years and remain so today. I love lever guns! This right at the top fo the BLR list when it comes to elegance. Dang it, now Im in danger of blowing my new years resolution right out of the gate. Perhaps Sako should reintroduce the Finnwolf. I was tired of having to keep it out of the sunlight while hunting. it looks great, its action is smooth as a baby. From the ammunition perspective, Hornady introduced its LEVERevolution line that uses FTX bullets with soft, rubber-like points. The BLR is different from several other brand offerings in lever-action rifles. Because their bolts lock at the head, case stretch in minimized in the BLR and Long Ranger. Working the lever provides a smooth bolt slide in and out of the receiver. now the bad side (besides the farting girlfriend, even worse when she Dutch ovens you) on my second shoot I had a terrible time with rounds not seating on the bolt or chambering properly, sometimes locking the lever or not firing when triggered. We lost some great designs, including the Savage 99 and Winchester 88, and sales of traditional lever guns were slipping. Henrys definitely marketing this rifle hard. In fast action, the bolts about a thumbs width from my nose if I keep a good cheek-stock weld. All clip feed levers have this issue because they depress the cartridge feeder spring when operating the bolt. The Henry 6.5 Creedmoor Long Ranger carries a price tag of $1,066. The Model 99s internal rotary magazine improved upon the standard tubular magazine used on earlier lever guns. The lever action does not have a reputation for extreme accuracy, but it depends on the rifle. The BLR mag release is a short, recessed lever at the bottom of the receiver, directly in front of the magazine, which I find easier to use. The Long Ranger's out of the box trigger pull is about a pound lighter than the BLR's trigger. In fact, with the hammer back, if you point the rifle in the air and break the seal on the action, the rifle will open completely on its own with just the weight of the bolt. Guess they saw me coming! The BLR uses a slightly different design than its earlier lever predecessors, with a rack-and-pinion driven system and a trigger that travels with the lever. The Big Horn Armory M89 Spike Driver, chambered to .500 S&W, is another big-bore lever action. I bought the long ranger. And I will have to get my son one as well as he has always admired my savage .
